Park City & Our Sleeping Bandit

Two weeks after the Lagoon trip, guess who came to town? My parents (Dan & Jackie), older sister (Melissa) & 1-year-old nephew (Jacob)! Hannah & I joined them for a week-long vacation at a timeshare in Park City, UT.

The last time we saw them was Christmas, which we spent at my parent's home in Maryland. So, Hannah didn't quite remember them. But, she sure did warm up quickly. She was following her Grandpa around for the first two days, keeping a few feet of distance while closely studying him. After that, she was sold! Hannah's a sucker for old men. ;)

Of course, she'd follow her Grandma around, too, begging for yogurt & soda. They'd sit together in the evening in bed, watching TV while Hannah drank her milk.

The main attraction for Hannah was her little cousin, "Dub-dub," as she calls him. They'd take baths together, swap hats & pacifiers, play chase, share food & jabber back & forth.

To keep busing during the day, we'd swim, window shop along Park City's historic Main Street & take scenic drives.

One day, we went to Heber City to ride the Heber Creeper steam engine train. Hannah was so excited to ride a train. "Choo choo," she'd say. She entertained the other passengers by running car to car & saying "Hi" to those she passed.

During the last 35 min of the 3 hour train ride, Hannah fell asleep sitting on my lap. I was glad because she was getting pretty cranky. All was well, she was resting & I could finally enjoy the scenery.

However, 20 min into her nap, the train screeched to a stop & guns began firing. A bandit galloped up to the train on horseback & met his gang on the platform where the train stopped. They boarded the train cars while hollering & shooting their pistols in the air. One of the bandits even fired his shotgun. My ears were ringing. So, what was Hannah doing during the holdup? Sleeping. She didn't even flinch. She just slept through the whole act & the rest of the ride back to the train station. If only we all could sleep that deeply...

After our week of fun & family in Park City, Hannah was very sad to leave her new favorite people. On the drive home, she was saying, "Bye Ba-pa. Bye Mah-naw. Bye Mi-ssy. Bye Dub-dub. Bye flower. Bye tree. Bye rock." I'm not sure where those last three came from, but it was very sweet.

The good news is that we'll see them again very soon. My older sister is getting married in October. So, Hannah & I will travel to Virginia for the wedding & see everyone there, including my little sis, Melanie, and her 2 & 1/2-year-old daughter, Caitlin. We can't wait.
